This is a sequel to catch fumble catch, which I think I must have started writing before longfic bingo, because I didn't use it for this square.

Steve overthinks the freakout, and if there's activities Clint's against doing, let alone over doing, it's ones that put Steve into a funk.

I feel like I need to explain this fic.

So, since I've been talking about using the MCU as a way to pare down comics canon, here's a fic that I abandoned on my hard drive after realizing that the visuals don't work. As in, I doubt Clint's hairstyle in this would work on the actor, but if you were drawing Clint, or imagining some of the comics visuals, it could.

After realizing that, and deciding to just shelve it because I didn't want anyone to think my sense of design or something is that bad (lol), I kind of wrote from the hip and with a so whatever attitude, so this fic is pretty weird.

I'm marking it MCU here anyway, because I don't know what else to, but this is an example of the kind of canon/imagery clash I mean, and that I try to avoid in things that I put on the AO3.

Also, I realized it's long enough to fill one of my longfic bingo squares.

Marriage of Convenience: [Marvel Cinematic Universe] untitled Thor/Clint fic --5,427 words

One year, Earth-time, after taking over Loki's claim on Clint, Thor is back, Clint is different in ways that are odd and disturbing, and Tony is determined to figure out exactly what's going on between him and Thor, because he's not sure he likes what things are looking like.

This fic includes: Captivity, slavefic themes, D/s undertones, suspicions of non-con, suspicions of abuse, hints of dark stuff happening off screen, hints of off-screen D/s, but in the end everything turns out to be be mostly okay. It's not dark!Thor fic. Really not.

Also, no one is actually married. I may or may not be interpreting those prompt squares with increasing looseness.

We're now in an argument of plum/black or navy vs. marooon/gray. Maybe it's a screen thing, or a knowing the real, not in shadow, color thing, but I'm not backing down on plum.

What about a D/s verse fic where, as part of the marriage ceremony (or collaring, whatever you wanna call it), the sub gets hustled off after the party by their equivalent of bridesmaids/groomsmen, oiled up, blindfolded and then tied to the marriage bed where they’re left for the Dom to come find them. It’d be one of those ‘silly’ traditions that are weird and problematic and everyone professes to think they’re old fashioned despite still secretly loving them and doing them anyway.

Maybe people should just stop writing Shatterstar origin stories. How about that? This isn't any less confusing than the last 'clear up'.

Writing:

I'm having a reasonably good writing week. I can't believe how fast I got this part up and I'm halfway through the next. Maybe it's because these two chapters contain scenes I've been wanting to write since the beginning, and are, in fact, the reason this fic became so big--I had to get from that first scene in the tower to a secret lab. It only took just under 60K. :P

I'm realizing that plot might not be my problem. I have a lot of the background and world building set up pretty solidly, I think. What's hard is getting that backwork onto the page in a fluid way and also keeping parallel events going. The whole fic is from Tony's POV, so things happening away from him have to still be impacting the situation. It's like juggling. I'm hope I'm doing it OK.

Writing:

Writing plot scares me, but I've banged out most of the whys and what-fors of this fic. What I'm finding hardest is trying to balance action and character stuff while still unspooling the motivations and schemes behind things.

It's really challenging. As I get closer to reveals, I get all nervous about how to pull it off.

It's also pretty fun. My notes look more and more drunken flowcharts.

While under the influence of Loki's scepter, Clint keeps finding strange notes telling him to wake up and isn't quite sure what to make of them.

And they keep appearing.

Clearly that's not the case though. There are already several wizards AUs, but so far all of them are Harry Potter.

Why would you go with Harry Potter? Who wants to be Harry Potter when you could be Nita Callahan or Kit Rodriguez and fight entropy? ENTROPY!

Clearly this would heavily involve Tony. Because SCIENCE!

This part is heavy on Rhodey. I considered a bit whether I thought Rhodey would be useful to Tony in this way, but I like the idea that he would be. That Tony can wrangle more than Stark-babysitting type help out of him and that he'd have skills useful to sorting out the sort of things Tony gets messed up in.

The 14K I-don't-know-why-I-wrote-this-thing about Deadpool making Clint go on a roadtrip with him is still disturbing, pointless and without an endpoint, but looking at it (and watching some semi-crap Avengers movie on youtube that contains a line to the effect of "Banner always runs to the desert".) kind of makes me want to write a fic where Bruce takes off to Arizona, and lives in a shit, outdated little camper in the middle of bugfuck nowhere.

And then Clint and/or Tony show up. I don't know yet. Clint would just hang out and Tony would probably try to make the campsite "liveable" (read:fancy). Both options entertain me, but I just like writing Clint.

I'm so self-conscious about the obviousness of my favorites. Is it OK to only write your otp, or if you have a preference for certain characters? I notice even people who proclaim strong otp-ness write fic where neither characters in their pair is the focus.

Other news: A couple people have asked me about fic updates--I've been sick this week so I've doodled some, but not that much else. I have some kind of crap flu and no more cough drops and bats are living in the ceiling above my bed.

I'm sort of hoping to be better soon, but also to stay sick until New Years so I don't have to participate in holidays. I might be a bit cranky. Did I mention the bats? I think they're raising young up there.

Haven't digital painted in a while. I could probably smooth everything out into digital finish but 1. patience and 2. tablet pen hurt ugh.

This isn't a dark fic, but it does have a lot of warnings. Also, I keep wondering if it should be Genus: Panthera with the colon, like in those little info cards at the zoo. Species: Tigris Species: Leo. That's the context of that title, in case it wasn't actually completely obvious.

Note that the / in the tag for this is just because its inconvenient to have an & relationship tag like on AO3. I think it's heading there, but this fic does whatever the hell it wants, so.

Putting this here because my meme post had bad code and I'm not sure if I want to sit on this a bit then tidy it up for AO3 or cannibalize it for parts.

Summary from prompt:

Clint's former CO from his army days has some information, SHIELD needs urgently, so they send him to get them. They don't know he once had a relationship with this guy (dadt) and that he left him because of the domestic abuse.

His ex will give him the information, but he wants one night with Clint. Clint refuses, because he's with Steve now. So his Ex takes what he wants by force. And he gives him the information.

When Clint is back, Steve can see hickeys and scratches and he thinks, Clint cheated to get the information and he blames him for it.
